PURPOSE
Wakefield Baptist Church believes in missions*. Through the leadership of our pastoral staff and Missions Ministry Team, we desire to bring glory to Jesus Christ by engaging, equipping, and empowering the members of Wakefield Baptist Church to fulfill the Great Commission throughout the world.
MISSIONS MINISTRY TEAM
The primary task of the Missions Ministry Team is to lead the members of our church to live as missionaries in their neighborhoods, schools, workplaces, etc. With this as our foundation, our second task is to organize the church corporately to go into the world and make disciples of all nations with a gospel that is not only proclaimed by our words, but also demonstrated by our deeds**.
VISION & STRATEGY
Scripture teaches that the Church is God's instrument of hope in addressing the needs of the world (Matthew 16:18; Ephesians 3:10). For this reason, we have developed an integrated approach to missions where domestic missions and international missions are combined into one strategy, allowing us to emphasize church planting and church development both locally and globally (Matthew 28:18-20; Acts 1:8). In this, we seek to improve the welfare of local communities through the gospel of Jesus Christ (Jeremiah 29:7). Our desire is to see the gospel transform lives both physically and spiritually through the planting and strengthening of churches. Physical and spiritual transformation requires an intentional focus on specific cultural landscapes, engaging areas such as education, the arts, healthcare, public safety, and commerce.
In this regard, we want to intentionally engage, equip, and empower teams from Wakefield Baptist Church to plant new churches and strengthen existing churches. We seek to identify strategic areas throughout the world for this purpose, placing emphasis on engaging unreached people groups. Through all of our efforts, we strive to partner with other churches, church plants, and organizations, with priority given to Southern Baptist entities and affiliates.
* 'The church exists by mission as a fire exists by burning.' Emil Brunner, quoted in Darrin Patrick, Church Planter (Wheaton: Crossway, 2010), 180.
** 'Proclaiming the whole gospel, then, means much more than evangelism in the hopes that people will hear and respond to the good news of salvation by faith in Christ. It also encompasses tangible compassion for the sick and the poor, as well as biblical justice, efforts to right the wrongs that are so prevalent in our world.' Richard Stearns, The Hole in Our Gospel (Nashville: Nelson, 2009), 22.
